What is Furikake Roasted Corn?
Furikake is a versatile Japanese condiment and consists of a blend of dried seaweed, sesame seeds, sugar and salt. Its umami-packed profile adds depth and complexity to various dishes, from rice, fish, french fries, vegetables like kale, and yes, even dessert (rice krispies)! Next, unlike traditional mayonnaise, Kewpie mayo is made with egg yolks instead of whole eggs, giving it a richer, creamier texture. The combination of the slightly charred sweet corn, creamy Kewpie mayo and furikakeโs umami-rich, slightly salty taste creates an addictive side dish thatโs hard to resist.
Hereโs Why You Will Love Furikake Roasted Corn
- Flavourful: Furikake offers a savoury, slightly sweet, and distinctly umami taste while the Kewpie mayo gives it a rich and creamy texture.
- Minimal cleanup: All you need is one item – cast iron pan (or baking sheet if you don’t have one).
- Fusion: This side dish is a blend of Japanese seasoning and condiment with traditional American corn.
- Customizable: With various furikake blends available, you can experiment with different flavours, from classic seaweed and sesame to spicy or citrus-infused variations.
Equipment and Tools to Make Furikake Roasted Corn

How to Make Furikake Roasted Corn
Letโs make this dish!
Preheat your oven to broil on high. Today, I used my pizza oven but your regular oven will be fine too.
Place the corn on a cast iron pan or baking sheet and top with butter. Broil in the preheated oven for 10 minutes, or until the kernels are tender and slightly charred. Watch closely so it doesn’t burn.
Once the corn is done, squeeze some Kewpie Mayo on top and sprinkle some Furikake seasoning. Enjoy!

Storage and Reheating Tips
The Furikake Roasted Corn refrigerates well in an air tight container for up to three days. Reheat in the microwave.
Make Ahead Options
You can precook the corn either by microwaving, boiling or steaming it until it’s just tender. Once cooked, let the corn cool completely before storing it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. When you’re ready to serve, simply grill or roast the pre-cooked corn until it’s heated through and slightly charred.
Recipe Tips
For the best flavour and texture, select fresh, sweet corn on the cob. My favourite frozen corn kernels are Green Giant. They are the best!
Cook the corn in the oven until it’s tender and slightly charred, turning occasionally to ensure even cooking. This usually takes about 10-15 minutes, depending on the heat of your grill or oven.
Furikake roasted corn with a squeeze of Kewpie mayo is best served hot out of the oven.
Feel free to customize the recipe to suit your preferences. If you like spicy food, add a sprinkle of chili powder or cayenne pepper to the mayo mixture. For a tangy twist, squeeze some fresh lime juice over the finished corn before serving.
