Thai Basil Fried Rice

Thai Basil Fried Rice

Got leftover rice? I made Thai basil fried rice with my extra basil (one bag has so much!). Thai basil has purple stems and a delicate black licorice flavor that’s absolutely irresistible. Add it to fried rice, and it infuses an irresistible aroma that makes it impossible not to take another bite. It’s a great way to use this herb if you have it on hand!

Why do I love making Thai basil fried rice?

It’s because it is quick and easy to make and so irresistibly delicious. After a long day of work, it’s so simple to cook up. I promise you it’s not complicated and it’s the best comforting meal.

To start, combine the sauces in a bowl. Saute the protein of choice. In this case, I am using shrimp. Cook your aromatics of garlic and onion. This will give it so much flavour! Add the rest of the ingredients and mix. Then break in the eggs. Seriously, so fast and so good!

Fried rice tips

Here are some tips for the perfect fried rice:

  1. Use day old rice if possible. It is drier and less sticky. If you forget to make it the day before, you can use fresh rice but I would let it sit for a few hours before using it for fried rice.
  2. Break up the rice before it goes into the work. This will ensure that the rice separates into individual grains without breaking or getting crushed. You don’t want clumpy fried rice either!
  3. Keep it simple. Less is more as they always say! There is so much flavour coming from the Thai basil. Aromatics such as garlic and onion helps as well!
