Garlic Croissants

Garlic Croissants are buttery, crispy and insanely flavourful with a garlic aroma that you will love. This is the perfect balance of savoury with a slight sweetness. Be forewarned, this mouth watering pastry will make you want more! Check out my shortcut recipe! It’s a copycat version of the mini garlic croissants from Paris Baguette, except full size.

buttery and garlicky croissants

A Korean cafe named Paris Baguette recently opened in my city. Paris Baguette has taken the classic croissant to a whole new level with its Garlic Croissant. I instantly fell in love with their garlic croissants and I knew I had to recreate those exact flavours at home.

The exterior boasts the signature golden-brown, crisp, and flaky layers that are the hallmark of a perfect croissant. But it’s the fragrant blend of fresh out-of-the-oven aroma and roasted garlic that takes the croissant next level!

Here’s Why You Will Love Garlic Croissants

  • Simple: You can make this recipe regardless of your cooking skill level. It’s very easy to make. Plus, I cheat and use store bought croissants from Costco. Check out how I also reinvent the Costco croissant by making Chocolate Dipped Flat Croissant with Matcha here and Salted Egg Yolk Lava Croissant here.
  • Better than takeout: You can make this tasty croissant right in your own kitchen without breaking the bank. I spent the same amount making a large dozen croissants vs 6 mini croissants from the bakery.
  • Great for crowds: This recipe makes one dozen, which is great for a party or gathering.
  • Flavourful: If you like garlic, you will love this! The star of garlic croissants is undoubtedly the garlic.
  • Versatile: They can be served as a side dish, a snack, or even a main course when filled with additional ingredients like cheese, herbs, or vegetables. They pair wonderfully with soups, salads, or even a charcuterie board.

Alright, let’s make our shopping list! To make this recipe, you will need…

Croissants: Day old croissant works best. This recipe uses 12 regular sized croissants from Costco.

Garlic and garlic powder: Yes, I use both for the extra aroma.

Egg: Binds all the garlic sauce ingredients together.

Salted butter: Gives additional richness to the garlic croissant.

Sugar: Don’t let the sweetness throw you off! It’s subtle but present in Korean garlic croissants.

Parsley: Dried parsley is what I use. Feel free to use fresh parsley.

Milk: I use 1% milk for this recipe.

Garlic Croissants Options and Substitutions

Want to mix things up with this recipe? Feel free to…

  • Use full size or mini croissants for this recipe. Just make sure your store bought croissant is made with butter. The butter in the croissant ensures that this will turn out flaky.
  • Elevate your garlic croissants with a cheesy twist. Grated parmesan, cheddar, or mozzarella are all great options.
  • Cut the garlic croissant lengthwise and spread cream cheese in the center. It provides a creamy, tangy flavor that complements the garlic well.
  • Use extra-virgin olive oil as a substitute for butter if you’re seeking a lighter option. Brush the croissants with olive oil mixed with minced garlic and herbs for a Mediterranean twist rather than a Korean influence.
  • Replace dried parsley with some fresh parsley to brighten the dish.
  • Use your favourite homemade croissant recipe if you wish.
  • Substitute croissants with puff pastry. It will yield a slightly different texture but is equally delicious.

Storage and Reheating Tips

Freshly baked garlic croissants are best enjoyed on the same day.

Storage: If you need to store them for a short period (up to 2 days), keep them at room temperature in an airtight container or a resealable bag. This will help preserve their texture and flavour. However, bear in mind that they might lose some crispness over time.

Freezing: To store garlic croissants for an extended period (up to 2-3 months), freezing is the best choice. Wrap the croissants individually in plastic wrap, place them in an airtight container or a freezer bag, and label them with the date. Thaw and reheat when you’re ready to eat.

Reheating in the air fryer: It’s an excellent tool for reheating croissants. Preheat the air fryer to 350Β°F (175Β°C), then place the croissants inside for 2-3 minutes, or until they’re heated through and crispy.

Make Ahead Options

The garlic croissants come together so quickly that it is best to make it fresh. I have tried to make the garlic mix ahead of time and it partially solidifies overtime.

Recipe Tips

Use day old butter croissants. I buy my croissants from Costco instead of making them from scratch. This recipe is a quick and easy version and it’s okay to cheat sometimes!

To evenly distribute the garlic flavor, finely mince the garlic cloves. You can use a garlic press or a sharp knife to achieve this.

You can omit the sugar if you do not prefer the hint of sweetness.

Garlic croissants are best enjoyed fresh out of the oven when they’re at their flakiest and most aromatic.

It is best to reheat in the air fryer until they are heated through and crispy.
