Turnip Cake with Egg

Turnip Cake with Egg, or 蘿蔔糕煎蛋 “Lo Bak Go Jian Dan” in Cantonese, is my favourite pairing of a classic dim sum dish with fried eggs! It’s such a satisfying breakfast that is ready in no time and it’s so easy to make. Who doesn’t like fried eggs anyway?

Here in this recipe, I elevate the classic turnip cake. I pair the golden, pan-fried turnip cake with the richness of perfectly fried eggs. The crispy edges of the whites and the runny yolk are so good with the soft, flavorful interior of a turnip cake.

What is Turnip Cake with Egg?

Turnip Cake with Egg, or 蘿蔔糕煎蛋, is a delicious fusion of the savoury Chinese turnip cake with perfectly fried eggs. This dish begins with the preparation of traditional turnip cake, a blend of radishes, rice flour, Chinese sausage (臘腸), dried shiitake mushrooms (冬菇) and dried shrimp (蝦米). Once steamed and sliced, the turnip cake is pan-fried to golden perfection, creating a crispy exterior with a soft, tender interior. Fried eggs are then cooked with the turnip cake slices. It’s a solid choice for breakfast and a delicious satisfying start to the day!
